A fruitful day?

A sweet surprise from some dear friends: fresh picked strawberries from Marburger Orchard in Fredericksburg. So delicious, even Mia wanted to try them.  Does anyone have any good recipes?

  1. Yes!!!! La Madaline does a Strawberry Romanof that I love. You can google the recipe. It’s something like 1/2 cup sour cream 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup whipping cream 1 tablespoon brandy or vanilla (or both!!!!!ha,ha) whip the cream and add brandy or vanilla mix in sour cream and brown sugar refrigerate…. pour over gently cut up strawberies yum,yum.

    or make yogurt Panna Cotta recipe on Martha Stewart web site and top with cut strawberries that you have sprinkled sugar on.

  2. Good Morning, how blessed you are to have such generous and thoughtful friends! If calories are not an issue, the following is a recipe from the late comedian Dom DeLuise’s cookbook. I’ve used it for years and just change up the fillings… “Mamma’s Happy Birthday, Anniversary and Wedding Cake” – 6 eggs, separated, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 heaping teaspoons baking powder, 1 cup flour, wax paper, (I use parchment paper) 2 round 9″ baking pans, electric beater & mixing bowl. Beat egg whites til foamy. Slowly add egg yolks to egg whites, one at a time. Then add sugar & vanilla. Add baking powder to flour & gradually add to the other ingredients & mix well. Pour half the batter into each round pan, both of which have been lined with wax paper. Bake at 350 degrees (my stove runs hot so I turn temp to 300 degrees, ) for 15 to 20 minutes.(mine can be done in 10 minutes) Cake top should be light brown, just insert knife and make sure it comes out clean. remove from pan, cool on rack. Remove wax paper. Topping…1 and 1/2 pints whipping cream whipped with 3 teaspoons sugar until it peaks. Place first layer on plate, spread strawberries that have been previously washed, sliced and marinating in a couple of teaspoons of sugar (that will create a bit of syrup) on top, cover with whipped cream. Cover with 2nd layer and spread more strawberries. Spread rest of whipped cream on top & sides of cake. Decorate with extra strawberries. This recipe is really quite easy, and doesn’t take a great deal of time. Since you have beautiful fresh fruit, its a reason to celebrate! A hug and kiss to Mia!
