We’re a little behind on our show notes for last week, and since we had some great topics we wanted to get these notes up for you.
As you likely know, Fr. Benedict Groeschel, CFR passed away on the evening of Oct 3, the Transitus of Our Holy Father Francis. His funeral was held last Friday, and if you weren’t able to see it on EWTN you can watch it here.
We had a great call-in question about what the word recollection means in the context of the spiritual life. This is a term that you may have come across while reading, like our caller, and wanted to learn more about. You can find a great explanation here in the Catholic Encyclopedia.
We also talked about the Rosary as a means of recollecting yourself, and referenced a book which should be a staple in every Catholic home: The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis de Montfort. You can purchase it from EWTN’s Religious Catalogue by clicking the link above.
Another excellent book which Sr. Grace Marie talked about, which she providentially found in our library as we had been talking about its author so much lately, is The Rosary: Chain of Hope by Fr. Groeschel. It’s a great way to learn about the meaning and history of the Rosary and its 20 mysteries. It also contains the full text of St. John Paul II’s apostolic letter on the Rosary, Rosarium Virginis Mariae.
During this month of the Holy Rosary it would be a great idea to learn more about this great gift (and Our Lady) by making time to read some spiritual books. Sometimes the Rosary can seem long and dry, and this is a great way to help deepen your understanding and appreciation of it, as well as assisting with your meditations on the mysteries of the Rosary.
